Description

Microsoft Exchange Online Protection CFQ7TTC0LGZM-1

Microsoft Exchange Online Protection (EOP) is a cloud-based email filtering service that helps protect your organization against spam and malware and includes features to safeguard your organization from messaging policy violations. EOP can simplify the management of your messaging environment and alleviate many of the burdens that come with maintaining on-premises hardware and software.

Product Features

  • Anti-Malware Protection: EOP includes built-in anti-malware protection that helps detect and block malicious attachments and links in emails. It scans incoming and outgoing emails for known malware signatures and behaviors to prevent malware infections. I have been asked about the difference between anti-malware protection in EOP VS. Defender for Office 365 and the difference is that EOP blocks known malware, where Defender inspects all attachments and links for malware.
  • Anti-Spam Filtering: EOP employs sophisticated anti-spam filtering algorithms to identify and block spam emails before they reach users’ inboxes. It uses various techniques such as content filtering, sender reputation analysis, and machine learning to reduce the volume of unwanted spam emails.
  • Anti-Phishing Protection: EOP helps protect against phishing attacks by analyzing email content, sender reputation, and other factors to identify phishing attempts. It can detect and block emails that impersonate legitimate senders or contain suspicious links designed to steal sensitive information.
  • Email Encryption: EOP offers email encryption capabilities to help protect sensitive information sent via email. It supports encryption using Transport Layer Security (TLS) to secure email transmission between servers and provides options for end-to-end encryption using digital certificates or rights management services. EOP subscribers get a basic version of Microsoft Information Protection e-mail encryption capabilities.
  • Data Loss Prevention (DLP): EOP includes DLP capabilities that allow organizations to define and enforce policies for preventing the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive data via email. It can automatically detect and block outbound emails containing sensitive information such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, or confidential documents. This is done by pattern recognition capability in mail flow rules.
  • Customizable Policies: EOP allows administrators to create and customize policies based on their organization’s specific security requirements. They can define rules for filtering spam, blocking malicious content, enforcing encryption, and managing DLP policies to align with regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Quarantine Management: EOP provides administrators with tools to manage quarantined emails, allowing them to review and release or delete emails flagged as spam or containing malware. Users can also access their personal quarantine to review and take action on quarantined emails.
  • DKIM signature support – add digital signatures to outgoing emails, providing a way for receiving email servers to verify that the messages originated from the claimed domain and have not been altered in transit. This helps combat email spoofing and phishing attacks, enhancing the security of email communications.
  • EOP (Exchange Online Protection) alerts These are some of the key alerting capabilities available in Exchange Online to help administrators monitor and manage their email environment effectively.
  • Mail flow insight Alerts: Exchange Online provides insights into the mail flow within your organization, including information about message delivery, delays, and failures. Administrators can set up alerts to be notified of unusual mail flow patterns or issues that may affect email delivery.
  • Transport rule notifications: Administrators can create transport rules in Exchange Online to automatically take action on emails based on specific criteria. Exchange Online can generate notifications or alerts when transport rules are triggered, allowing administrators to monitor and respond to email events in real-time.
  • Service health notifications: Exchange Online provides service health insights and notifications to keep administrators informed about the status of the Exchange Online service. Administrators can subscribe to service health notifications to receive alerts about planned maintenance, service incidents, and other service-related issues that may impact email delivery and availability.
  • Exchange Online Protection (EOP) is included as a standard feature in several Office 365 plans, primarily those designed for business and enterprise customers. The following plans include EOP:
  • Microsoft 365 Business Basic: This plan includes Exchange Online Protection along with web and mobile versions of Office apps like Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Microsoft 365 Business Standard: In addition to Exchange Online Protection, this plan includes desktop versions of Office apps for up to 5 PCs or Macs per user, as well as other collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
  • Microsoft 365 Apps for Business: This plan includes Exchange Online Protection along with desktop versions of Office apps for up to 5 PCs or Macs per user, but does not include other collaboration tools like Teams and SharePoint.
  • Office 365 Enterprise E1: This enterprise plan includes Exchange Online Protection along with web and mobile versions of Office apps, but does not include desktop versions of Office apps.
  • Office 365 Enterprise E3: This enterprise plan includes Exchange Online Protection, desktop versions of Office apps for up to 5 PCs or Macs per user, and other advanced collaboration and security features like Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and Advanced Threat Protection.
